NanoSteel's NSG 4280™ is an ultra-high strength stainless steel foil designed for use in applications requiring high strength, hardness and corrosion resistance.
NSG 4280™ is designed for use as woven fabrics, braids, corrugated profiles, fibers, laminates and foil slit to various widths… In fiber form, NSG 4280™ can be used for reinforcement of various matrix materials such as concrete or polymers. As an alternative to high-strength steel, amorphous steel, glass and carbon fibers, NSG 4280™ fibers provide a unique combination of strength, ductility, conductivity and corrosion resistance properties. In a concrete matrix, NSG 4280™ fibers have demonstrated increased resistance to crack initiation and micro-crack propagation.
"The micrograph shows the unique nano-scale microstructure of NSG 8280™ which enable the foil to be a glassy metal with ductility. The ultra-high strength comes from the amorphous matrix (light regions) in the structure, and the nanocrystalline secondary phase structures (dark regions) enable ductility avoiding the inherent brittleness of most amorphous metals."
